General presentation

Philosopher and writer Alexandre Alaric was born in Martinique. He obtained his Doctorate in Philosophy with a thesis entitled La fonction topique du discours. He has taught philosophy at Lycée de Bellevue de Fort-de-France and is currently a lecturer at the University of the French West Indies and Guiana. Determined to promote Visual Art from the French West Indies, he has stood as Director of the Institut Régional d’Art Visuel de Martinique (IRAVM). He has also chaired the Institut des Arts des Amériques et des Caraïbes founded in 2008 by Suzy Landau. Author of several art exhibition writings, Alexandre recently headed up Art et pouvoir [Créer dangereusement], the opening symposium for events devoted to the hundred years since the birth of Aimé Césaire. He also contributes to diverse journals including la Revue politique, artistique, philosophique - Multitudes as well as to a whole range of collective works. He is a member of the Writers Congress jury. In 2013 he is publishing Pour une anthologie logique du discours postcolonial with L’Harmattan.
