Alexandre Cadet-Petit was born in Fort-de-France, Martinique, in 1945 and grew up in the Terres-Sainville neighbourhood. A graduate from the Ecole Nationale des Beaux Arts in Paris, he is a visual artist, scriptwriter, training leader and director and has directed numerous exhibitions. He has also curated a number of exhibitions, including Wilfredo Lam, L’urgence poétique, an event designed to give a wider audience the chance to discover the oeuvre of one of the most outstanding Caribbean artists of his day. As a contributor to the work carried out by the Centre d’Etudes et de Recherches en Esthétique et Arts Plastiques (CERAP), he has participated in writing several collective works on pictorial aesthetics and is also the creator of the highly successful satirical comicbook Fouyaya. In addition to his other interests, he was one of the organisers behind Joby Bernabé’s Kimafoutiésa company, created in 1973, and is the author of a novel entitled La femme, un roman de plus de 69 pages, (Editions Desnel, 2008), which recounts the lives and strange careers of a group of male and above all female characters. In 2010, he was awarded a Mission Stendhal grant from Culturesfrance (now Institut Français). |
