General Presentation:

I  am a multi-disciplinary specialist in Gender and Development Studies, Urban Violence, Rastafari Studies, Child and Youth Development and Audio-visual Documentation. My work experiences  also include Social Development Management, Academic Directing, Baseline and Monitoring and Evaluation Studies.

I hold a Ph.D. in Development Studies (2002, Institute of Social Studies, The Hague, The Netherlands). My research was a case study  of Southside, an inner-city community in Central Kingston, Jamaica.  This project provided a prism through which to analyse the political economy of power, gender and the body as expressed in this Northern Caribbean context. The outputs of the research, Blood, Bullets and Bodies: Sexual Politics Below Jamaica’s Poverty Line are revealed in a published book (2008, Shaker Publishing, The Netherlands; 2006, Multi-Media Communications, Kingston).  See for further details.

I also hold an M.A. in Women and Development, (1989, Institute of Social Studies, The Hague, The Netherlands) and a B.A. in Communication with Language and Literature (1982, Caribbean Institute of Media and Communication, CARIMAC, University of the West Indies, Mona).
